Cats Versus Dogs – The Pet Debate

[ad_1]

There are a wide variety of pets on the market ranging from a numerous species of birds, rodents, fish and specialized creatures such as insects or lizards. The most popular types of animals however are cats and dogs. Both animals have been companions of humans for centuries and likewise, they have vied for a spot in our hearts. This has become a cause for debate between cat lovers and dog lovers. Both animals have different needs and pros and cons, the following is to help you choose which pet is best for you and your lifestyle.

Dogs: Amazing animals with a range of attributes, dogs come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, abilities and colors. Requiring daily interaction and care, dogs are highly intelligent and require attention throughout the day. Some breeds are more active and without proper obedience training can wreck havoc on your living space. Others are perfectly content to doze while you are at work and are gentler with children. If you are an active person choose your pet accordingly – a small dog which tires easily is not a good fit for long walks while a larger active dog is. Your living space should also be a determining factor in what breed of dog you may choose, if you live in a city, a small to mid-sized dog is best as most apartments have size allowances on pets and the prospect of leaving a large animal in a small living space can be stifling to the animal. Living in the country or suburbs offers lots of space for larger dogs both indoors and out. Carefully consider your options and research different breeds to make sure your future pet will fit with your lifestyle as well as your home and family as this should factor in any long-term choices you make.

Cats: Showing a wide range of emotions and personalities, cats are comfortable creatures. There are cats for all walks of life and do not require the physical interaction and activity that dogs do. Cats are self sufficient not needed to go outside like dogs for daily walks only requiring litter boxes. Some cats are specifically indoor animals and other than being fed and changing their litter need little else from their owners. They do well in living spaces by themselves. Cats have a wide range of personalities. Some are quite shy and a take a long time to adjust to people, others are very friendly and sit on laps and curl up next to their sleeping owners. It is important to lay down rules too with cats; scratching on furniture and choosing whether the animal will be an indoor or outdoor cat is up to you and must be decided. A cat should also be chosen according to your lifestyle. Many cats live for over a decade and your future and current plans should be considered before purchasing a cat or any animal.

There are many pros and cons for any animal but cats and dogs are the two most popular pets. Before deciding on what route to go be sure to do much research on the type of pet, breed and your plans for the future to make the best life possible for your new family member.
