Many people wonder how the fluorescent bulbs works and they mostly know that this is a gas-filled bulb. What is actually contained inside is mercury vapor which will only produce ultra violet light. But the lamp has a phosphorescent coating which glows once exposed to the ultra violet light and the result is bright and clear illumination. Although these fittings are larger than the normal tungsten bulbs, they do a lot longer and are much cheaper to run over time.

Today, everyone is aware that we must start cutting back on fuel consumption and as power is produced from fossil fuels sometimes, the need to save electricity is paramount. The newer coiled bulbs for home use are much more compact than the originals and many people are now replacing the old tungsten varieties with these. They are more expensive though but they are a whole lot longer which makes them price competitive over time.

Some countries have already phased out the old tungsten variety of bulbs and many more countries are following suit every year. Sometimes it should be impossible to purchase anything but this energy-efficient bulb which will obviously bring down prices even more as we progress.

Although most of us take lighting for granted, it is obvious that it is a far more complex system being used than first thought. Replacing the inside workings of these lamps is easier since online companies started to offer them for sale and a quick search online will show what is available in this area.
